About Dermalessence

My name is Valerie Dennis. As a Virginia licensed Master Esthetician and skincare instructor who struggled with acne and the scars it left behind, I understand how your skin can influence how you feel about yourself and how others may see you. I pair that empathy with a deep knowledge in skincare therapy honed over 10+ years of industry experience to guide you on your journey to healthier, more resilient skin.
I opened Dermalessence in 2019 in downtown Fredericksburg, VA after five years as a Lead Master Esthetician, drawn by the desire to provide an alternative to the corporate spa environment. I offer personalized skincare treatments designed to nurture long-term skin health over chasing quick fixes. Whether a client is dealing with stubborn acne, signs of aging, sensitivity, or damage from life's stresses, I will conduct a skin analysis to create personalized treatment plans that may include advanced techniques like chemical and enzyme peels, LED therapy, microcurrent, and microdermabrasion, as well as customized facials. My areas of expertise include anti-aging and acne treatments, as well as treating damaged and sensitive skin. In addition to my Master Esthetics certification, I am also certified in Oncology Esthetics to support the special skincare concerns and needs of those undergoing cancer treatment. I am also partnered with local dermatologists that I can refer clients to if a medical concern is discovered during a consultation or skin analysis.

My own skincare journey —from struggling with acne as a young adult to mastering advanced skin treatments as a skincare professional—shapes how I approach every client who walks through the doors of Dermalessence. After years of working at corporate-led spas with sales targets and quotas that don't always match up with a client's needs, I opened Dermalessence with the goal of creating a judgment-free, supportive space where clients feel seen, heard, and cared for, not sold to. My desire is to help my clients build and strengthen their confidence through improving not only the appearance of their skin, but also their relationship with it, just as I was able to. I fulfill this desire for my clients by offering honest skincare education in the treatment room so that clients grow to understand their skin and how to keep it healthy. Armed with this understanding and a personalized skincare approach, clients feel empowered to care for their own skin between visits, confident that they have both the knowledge and my continued support.

For several years, I balanced running Dermalessence with instructing and even directing a Master Esthetics Program, but at the end of 2023, I made the decision to focus on Dermalessence. However, the educator in me didn’t stay quiet for long. After some time focusing solely on Dermalessence, I began exploring new ways to share my passion for skincare and knowledge. With encouragement from peers, mentors, and family, I decided to expand my mission and begin my own skincare education program. In May 2025, the Dermalessence Esthetics Institute received its license from Virginia's Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. I am excited to continue educating both my clients and future skincare professionals with the same high standards and compassion that define Dermalessence.

In addition to running Dermalessence and the Dermalessence Esthetics Institute, I am a mother of two creative, energetic, and curious pre-teen girls. I aspire to be a living example of strength, purpose, tenacity, and empathy for them. My family and I also volunteer with local theater groups as well as Fredericksburg and Rappahannock region animal rescue groups, providing foster care and socialization for rescued dogs and supporting adoption events.
